A toilet that keeps running is most often a worn flapper or a fill valve that needs adjusting or replacing. A cracked tank or bowl gets replaced, not patched. These are the jobs we see on a plumbing services visit in Fort Collins, Windsor, and Loveland.
One stubborn clog is a toilet problem. If the tub or other drains back up when you flush, that points further down the drain line, and we'll tell you which you're looking at. Clogged or slow drains are handled as part of plumbing service.
Should you repair or replace the toilet? We look at the toilet in front of us, not a rule of thumb. A repair is usually the honest move when the tank parts are worn, a supply line or shutoff valve is leaking, or the leak at the base is a seal on a sound flange with a firm floor.
A new toilet is usually the honest move when the tank or bowl is cracked, the same toilet keeps failing after repairs, parts for that model are hard to find, it still rocks after the flange and floor are fixed, or you simply want a new one.
We tell you which one you're looking at, lay out the options, and agree on the price before we start. If a repair is the honest move, we say that. If a new toilet saves you a second visit, we say that too.
A plumber to install a toilet, or to replace the one you have, is the same visit. We shut off the water, remove the old toilet, check the flange and the floor around it, repair the flange if it needs it, set the new toilet on a new seal, connect the supply, check for leaks, and leave it solid and level.
When we pull a toilet, we check the flange and the subfloor before the new seal goes on. A sound flange and a firm floor can take a new seal and the toilet set back level. A broken flange, or a floor that gives, changes the job, and we stop and talk before that extra work starts. Swapping a toilet looks simple until the flange or the floor turns out to be the problem. Plumber or handyman to replace a toilet.
If the toilet rocks, the floor feels soft or spongy, flooring is lifting near the base, or there's a stain on the ceiling below, a slow leak has often been getting into the subfloor. A toilet that rocks has usually broken its wax seal, so a rocking toilet is often a leaking one. If more than one fixture backs up or gurgles, the problem is usually further down the drain line, not the toilet.
Most toilet repair stops at the toilet. Ours doesn't have to. One in-house team handles the flange, subfloor, floor joists, flooring, trim, paint, drywall, and sets a new toilet. The price is agreed before the floor comes up. If we find something different once it's open, we stop and talk first. That is the No Change Order Guarantee. We remove and replace water-damaged materials. Small cleanup and drying stay with the repair. Larger restoration goes to a restoration partner.

In a Fort Collins home, we took down the two upper cabinets and cut out the damaged drywall to see how far the water had traveled. Upstairs, we pulled the old linoleum and the damaged subfloor around the toilet and found a broken toilet flange letting water through to the kitchen below. We cut in a new drain elbow, set a new flange at the right height for the finished floor, and installed new subfloor. Then we reinstalled the toilet and baseboards.

In Loveland, a toilet was leaking. The homeowner wanted to understand the likely extent of the damage and agree on a repair plan before the floor came up. Luke did a diagnostic visit first. When the floor was opened, we removed multiple layers of old tile and found water damage underneath, rebuilt the floor, restored the toilet, and painted the vent grate to match.

FAQ
Repair it if the problem is a worn part, a supply line, or the seal at the base and the toilet itself is sound. Replace it if the tank or bowl is cracked, it keeps failing after repairs, or it still rocks after the flange and floor are fixed. We tell you which one you're looking at and agree on the price before we start.
Yes. We shut the water off, remove the old toilet, check the flange and the floor, set the new toilet on a new seal, connect the supply, and check for leaks. The price is agreed before we start.
Most often the flapper is worn or the fill valve needs adjusting or replacing. Those are repairs on a sound toilet. If the tank or flush valve is damaged, we explain whether a repair or a new toilet makes more sense.
Yes. A toilet that rocks usually breaks its wax seal, so it often leaks a little every flush, sometimes into the subfloor. Have it pulled and the flange and floor checked. If the floor is soft, our in-house team repairs the flange, subfloor, and flooring and resets the toilet.
A soft floor near the toilet usually means a slow leak has been soaking the subfloor. One in-house team fixes the whole job: flange, subfloor, floor joists, flooring, trim, paint, drywall, and the toilet. See toilet leak floor damage repair for how that job goes.
You get an upfront price before work starts. We look at the toilet, explain the options, and agree on the price for that scope. If something different turns up once the toilet is up, we stop and talk first. Financing is available.
